Duke of Edinburgh Award

14 members of the group recently completed their practice expedition for their Bronze Award. They walked in two groups from Lostwithiel to the camp site near Bodinnick using minor roads and footpaths, some of which were impossible to find but the young people were able to use their initiative and map reading skills to find alternative routes.

Having put up their tents they then cooked their meal using Trangia stoves and were then able to relax ready for the second days hike back to Lostwithiel via the Bodinnick Ferry and the Saint’s Way.

The group were supervised from various check points along the way and at the camp site by suitably qualified Team Leaders who had themselves completed a training weekend the previous week.

The group will now be busy preparing for the qualifying walk in July when they will be monitored by an appointed assessor who will look at their map reading, camping and team work
